Twitter demystified!
I’ll be honest I didn’t get twitter when I joined in early 2007. I heard about the flash mobbing that was taking place at SXSW and I saw the flash mobbing first hand at the IA Summit that year but I didn’t get the application of twitter beyond unifying people for short periods of time.
More recently I really tried to start participating in the twitterverse, clients were asking about it and didn’t have a good way to describe it unlike a the majority of the social software I am a part of.
I can gladly say that I GET IT! I finally get it and I think the term ambient intimacy sums it up very nicely. We only have the capacity to connect to roughly 150 people on a truly personal level. Twitter allows you to have the intimacy of a personal relationship with someone without even asking a question. Their lives are broadcasted in 140 char snippets and when you happen to run into those casual connections you have something to talk about.
